Impact of Alberta’s immigration changes on international students

Two new immigration streams have been announced by the Canadian province of Alberta starting June 14, 2018, one of which is a new Express Entry pathway to Canada PR. The new changes will be beneficial to current and potential applicants, which include international student graduates. The highest number of international students was located in the Prairies of Canada with the number going up to 26,255 in 2017 as per Government of Canada.

The Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) is meant to simplify the changes, reduce wait times, and provide a fair access for applicants across all sectors and industries in Alberta. The Alberta Express Entry stream offers a profile in the Federal Express Entry system route for permanent residency in Canada. As per the announcement, the candidates who have demonstrated strong ties to Alberta and who can help support the government’s economic development and diversification priorities will be invited to apply. International graduates will also be invited under this stream.
