WORK WHILE STUDYING:
Students who wish to work while studying also has options like working 20 hours in a week during regular classes and working 40 hours in a week during Christmas, New Year holidays and term breaks. Part-time work can cover your living expenses but it also depends on the cost of your accommodation, hours that you work and your expenses. Most of the students earn $300 per week during study period and earn more during holidays. After the completion of student visa, student is eligible to apply for Temporary Graduate Visa.
Post Study Options
TEMPORARY GRADUATE VISA:
There are two types of temporary visas which allow you to work full time for a defined period of time.
Graduate Work Stream – this visa allows you and your family to work, travel and study in Australia for 18 months from the date of issue. The main criterion to be eligible for this visa is the type of qualification that you hold. Even if your qualification is below graduation, you can apply for the visa but your qualification must be in a field that is much in demand.
Post Study Work Stream – this visa allows you and your family to work, travel and study in Australia for 2-4 years if you have graduated from Australia. Moreover you are not eligible for the visa if you have applied for your student visa before November 5, 2011. Also if your qualification is below graduation then you are not eligible.
If you wish to settle permanently in Australia, then you can go for permanent visas. Skilled immigrants wishing to work and settle in Australia are judged based on points system based on work experience, qualifications and language proficiency. For this you need to submit an expression of interest and if you qualify then you can process further. There are different kinds of permanent visas:
SKILLED NOMINATED VISA:
Skilled nominated visa allows skilled workers who are nominated by the state or government agencies to live and work in Australia. For being nominated you should be below 50 years of age, work in a field which is on the skilled occupation list and obtain a suitable skill assessment for the occupation.
SKILLED INDEPENDENT VISA:
You can also apply as an individual if you are not nominated by the state or any government agencies. Still you should be below 50 years of age, work in a field which is on the skilled occupation list and obtain a suitable skill assessment for the occupation.
EMPLOYER NOMINATION SCHEME:
Under this scheme, an approved Australian employer can sponsor you proving that no Australian can fulfill the vacancy. Here the employer nominates you for the permanent position of a skilled worker. This visa has two step processes. First is to be nominated by the approved Australian employer and secondly to file an application under the nominated stream.
