The scholarships will be awarded in partnership with Indian Organizations and will offer 100% tuition fee waivers for the entire duration of the study at the University.
Deakin is the world’s first foreign university to open an office in India and a pioneer of India-Australia strategic partnership in the education sector. Commemorating the 25 years of its engagement in India, the Deakin University has yet again shown its solidarity and introduced the following scholarships for Indian students:
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship, in association with Biocon, India’s largest biopharmaceutical industry.
- Sports Scholarship, in collaboration with Rajasthan Royals, an IPL team.
- Creative Arts Scholarship in collaboration with a leading media group.
- Deakin’s Undergraduate and Postgraduate scholarship.
The themes of the four scholarships awarded are futuristic in approach and will help the students gain an insight into how to deal with global challenges and create a positive impact on the world. These scholarships fall within the scope of Vice Chancellor’s Meritorious Scholarship Program, which was first introduced for Indian aspirants in 2014. Since then 19 students have received the VC scholarship and are pursuing their studies at Deakin University.
From the time when VC scholarship commenced the University invested AUD 2 Million in the program and plans to infuse over AUD 1 Million in the next 3 years. With growing awareness of global opportunities, VC scholarships have gained much popularity among candidates seeking scholarships to study in Australia.
Professor Jane den Hollander, Vice-Chancellor Deakin University, expressed that Vice Chancellor’s Meritorious Scholarship is an important bridge between Indian students and global experience. She emphasized on futuristic learning and said that the education system is undergoing rapid transformation and students should recognize the significance of upgrading their skills.
Besides VC scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, Deakin University will also provide 30 research scholarships in 2019 through its Deakin India Research Initiative (DIRI). This scholarship will be awarded to students in association with Partner Company or Institutes.
The scholarship will have Ph.D. scholars enrolled with Deakin University while Partner Company or Institute will host the program. Full tuition fee waiver of AUD 100,000 will be granted along with in-country stipend paid to the student by the Indian partner. Also, a travel fund of AUD 10,000 will be granted to the student to travel and study in Australia one time for up to 6 months.
