The UK Government has announced two-year post study work visa for international students for the academic year 2020-21. This new change in the immigration norm will allow international students to stay in the UK for the period upto 2 years post completion of their studies. However, the students would not be allowed to extend their stay or count for settlement. Nevertheless, graduates who find an appropriate job in the UK may route themselves to settlement in case they fulfill the requirements.
The previous Tier 1 Post Study Work Visa category was abolished in April 2012. At Present, a limited option for post study work visa is provided for Tier 4 students, which enables them to work for six months. Those who intends to stay longer need to opt for Tier 2 visa or Tier 2 sponsor license scheme. With the recent change, Tier 4 visa international students will receive two years post study work visa from 2020.
No cap on post-study work visa
Under the new norms, there would be no cap on the number granted and international graduates may apply for jobs irrespective of their area of interest or skills. The UK Government expects to recruit top talents with expertise in Math, Engineering, and Technology.
Positive Approach by the UK Universities
The new change has received a positive welcome by the UK Universities and expects an increase in the international student’s enrollment. This will make the UK as a first-choice for study destination.
